This one-of-a-kind silver brooch was created by layering photographs and resin in a slow and deliberate process. Its individuality is enhanced by the view of Arran from my childhood home including the, now demolished, Hunterston cranes.

The view I’ve captured on this brooch has been the same for my whole life. When I think of my favourite place I think of this view. The phrase “the clouds are hiding” is a comment made on one of the many trips over to Arran. It was raining on the morning we went with clouds obscuring our view of Arran. I once commented “I hope the clouds are hiding something” and when we got over we discovered it was a beautiful day on the island, the clouds and rain were over the mainland and had been hiding a glorious day on Arran.

  • The brooch is 10 cm by 1.9 cm and 0.4 cm deep.

  • Steel pin fastening with a silver tube hinge and silver revolver catch.

  • Pin length is 9cm so this would suit thick fabric, perhaps a heavy scarf or a wide lapel.

  • Cast silver frame with a lightly textured finish.

  • Hallmarked in Edinburgh.
