9ct Gold Personalised Birthday Bangle

You might remember a couple of years ago I made an awesome Edinburgh skyline bangle including Murrayfield stadium and a scattering of diamonds. This year I was asked to make a bangle for her mother, something special and completely personalised for a big birthday.

The client had previously been heavily hinted at by her mother that she would love a piece of my jewellery. She had requested it be a personalised bangle because she loved her daughter's one so much. She wanted it personalised with her own landmarks on it - buildings and hills from around Edinburgh and The Borders that really meant something to her. So my brief was to design a bangle that used all of those buildings and incorporated the two landscapes too.

With the details of buildings sent over to me by my client I investigated each building. I looked at the size and scale of each buildings, to figure out how they would fit together and look their best. I wanted to have the two natural landscapes on either side of the buildings to frame them. This gave the design a lovely flow and finish at either end of the landscape, which is especially important when the landscape wasn't to be round the full bangle.

Extra personalised details

As requested by my client I made this bangle from 9ct white and yellow gold. I used white gold for the majority of the bangle, and I sawed the yellow gold landscape by hand, making sure each feature stood out. I also added some engraving to the landscape to pick out features on each building. My client asked if I would set three stones in the sky for an even more personalised element. The stones I set flush into the bangle were an Alexanderite, Topaz and a Diamond. Each stone represented the birth months of each member of her immediate family.

After the bangle had been gifted, the recipient decided she would like it to be engraved. She decided to put on her initials and the date so I finally got to meet her! It was so lovely for me to meet the recipient of one of my pieces as I don't often meet my clients as I do a lot of the design work and discussions by email. It's even less often that I get to meet the person that my jewellery has been gifted to. It was lovely to meet her and see how much joy the bangle gave her.
